The School of Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in the Department of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering in the area of biotechnology/biological engineering.
We seek an individual aspiring to direct a leading research program that fuses molecular biotechnology with quantitative engineering analysis/synthesis/design approaches. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. and have demonstrated abilities in biotechnology/biological engineering or a related discipline. The applicant will be expected to develop an independent, internationally recognized research program, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and supervise graduate-student research.
The successful candidate will join a select group of 11 full-time faculty whose areas of expertise include, but are not limited to: food science and engineering; transport phenomena in biological systems; material science and biopolymers; systems biology and process biotechnology; bioenergy; extraction of natural products; analysis, modeling and simulation of biological systems; and automatic process control and numerical methods.
Requirements: Applicants must have a commitment to excellence and a strong vocation for all aspects of academic life. They should also be strongly motivated to engage in innovative teaching, develop state-of-the art research and publish in leading international journals. Finally, they must also possess excellent oral and written communication skills, an aptitude for teamwork and a scholarly interest in high-quality engineering education.
Candidates must submit the following documents to firstname.lastname@example.org (in the email subject line, please put: Biological Engineering; see note A) by June 30, 2012.
- A statement of purpose (in Spanish or English) indicating why you should be considered for the vacancy and your plans in the areas of research and teaching in the context of the biotechnological engineering educational program. Be as specific as possible, e.g., giving examples of how you aim to transfer your engineering knowledge to undergraduate and graduate students, and detailing potential collaboration networks with other researchers you may have developed or intend to develop in the future.
- An up-to-date curriculum vitae (in Spanish or English; see note B).
- Copies of your five most recent ISI publications, if available. Otherwise, include any articles you consider relevant in the context of your application.
- Three letters of reference sent directly by the signatories to email@example.com.
You will get an automated response from this email address confirming that your documents have been received.
Your CV must be organized as follows:
Please avoid padding the list with other publications such as non-ISI journals, conference presentations and the like. To check whether a journal is included in the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) master list, consult the following web site: http://www.isinet.com/cgi-bin/jrnlst/jloptions.cgi?PC=master.
Once the complete set of application materials has been received, the applicant will be contacted within two months and informed whether or not his/her application has been accepted for further consideration. If this initial screening is successful, the candidate will be asked to give a lecture on his/her current research topics and attend interviews with faculty members of the Department of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering, the Dean of the School of Engineering and the Selection Committee.
Questions may be directed to Prof. Franco Pedreschi, Head, Department of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering, School of Engineering, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, Casilla 306 Correo 22, Santiago, Chile; or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
